Statute-thumping
Statute-thumping is the statist version of bible-thumping. Statists will often attempt to rationalize their claims by saying "It's the law!" as if that were an argument. They will thump the statute book in the same way Christians thump the bible. One sees this on both the "right" and "left." E.g. "Those guys are illegal aliens. What part of illegal do you not understand?" This of course begs the question of whether current immigration law is just or not. "You should pay your taxes (wear your seatbelt) because that's the law." Again, the begs the question of justice.
Statute-thumping may be a result of blind faith in the State, or it may simply be habituation to servitude. It could be argumentum ad baculum, an appeal to force, especially if they are about to call the pigs on you! At any rate, it is not an argument.
